Keeping Kids Safe While Bouncing
Bounce houses provide hours of entertainment, but safety should always come first. Here's what every parent needs to know.
Before They Start Bouncing
Check the Equipment:
- Ensure the bounce house is properly anchored
- Look for any tears or damage
- Verify the blower is running continuously
- Check that entrance/exit is clear
Prepare the Kids:
- Remove shoes, jewelry, and glasses
- Empty pockets of sharp objects
- Tie back long hair
- Apply sunscreen if outdoors
Age-Appropriate Guidelines
Toddlers (3-5 years):
- Require constant adult supervision
- Best in smaller bounce houses
- Limit to 3-4 kids at once
- Keep separate from older children
School Age (6-12 years):
- Can use most standard inflatables
- Still need adult supervision
- Follow capacity limits
- No roughhousing or flips
Teens (13+):
- Can handle larger obstacle courses
- Must still follow rules
- No double bouncing smaller kids
- Report any problems immediately
Weather Considerations
Stop Play Immediately If:
- Wind exceeds 15-20 mph
- Lightning is visible
- Heavy rain begins
- Temperature exceeds 100°F
What to Do in an Emergency
- Turn off the blower to deflate slowly
- Help children exit calmly
- Assess any injuries
